(Kuching, Friday): Chan Seng Khai shall apply unpaid leave from Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan if he wants to campaign for himself for the State Election and not using the Kuching Selatan taxpayers money to pay him.

Or Chan Seng Khai shall only carry out his campaign after office hour and he should carry out his work as Kuching Selatan mayor as usual during office hours.

He is the Mayor of Kuching Selatan and he has the responsibility to look after affairs and work flow in the Council and he cannot simply run away from his office during office hour to campaign for himself.

We can read from the press today that Chan Seng Khai is now stationed in his campaign operation room until he has to take his meal in his operation room.

While we do not know whether he is doing it outside office hour, Chan Seng Khai should rather carry out his responsibility as Kuching Selatan Mayor as usual as he will still be paid full salary as the Mayor during the campaign period, if he does not apply unpaid leave from his office.

In the principle of accountability and transparency, and as taxpayers of Kuching Selatan, Batu Lintang voters have the authority to question him on this, of whether he has applied unpaid leave from his Mayor’s office, or whether he is running his own campaign outside office hour.

I reserve the right to lodge a report against him if he fails to prove his unpaid leave application or if he is seen running his own campaigns outside his office during office hours.
