(Kuala Lumpur, Thursday) : I am glad that the Chief Justice has directed Federal Court judge, Datuk Hashim Yusoff, to give an explanation with regard to my allegation in Parliament that Datuk Hashim Yusoff has accumulated 35 unwritten judgments in criminals and civil cases in delays ranging between 5-7 years. I hope that Datuk Hashim Yusoff will come up with an acceptable explanation. The Chief Justice’s circular issued 5 years ago directing judgments to be written within 8 weeks after notice of appeal has been filed has obviously not been complied with by Datuk Hashim Yusoff. If a satisfactory explanation is not provided, Datuk Hashim Yusoff can be subjected to a tribunal for judicial misconduct. I understand that there are about 100 pending criminal appeals in which when written judgments have yet to be handed down by High Court judges in the country. I call upon the newly appointed President of the Court of Appeal, Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohamad to provide the facts and figures relating to delayed outstanding judgments both in criminal and civil appeals filed in the Court of Appeal against decisions in the High Court. In the public interest, this should be done without any delay.
