(Kuala Lumpur, Thursday): I congratulate Federal Court judge, Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohamad, who has been appointed President of the Court of Appeal and Datuk Alauddin Mohd Sheriff who has been appointed Chief Judge (Malaya). 

Both these personalities certainly deserve the appointments. They have the qualities of what makes a good judge – ability, integrity, patience, diligence and the burning desire to live up to expectations. The appointments will certainly be welcomed by the legal fraternity and there is no doubt in my mind that these two appointments will to a great extent restore the waning confidence in the judiciary as a result of what I exposed as judicial weaknesses in the Dewan Rakyat this week.
