(Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday) : Kelantan Menteri Besar, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, has stated publicly that the Federal government’s education policies are unislamic. “It has not helped to tackle social ills as the policy is man-made”.

Any policy by an government, of necessity, has to be man-made. Nik Aziz should not publicly come up with ridiculous statements. The country being a secular state, it would be unthinkable for the government to have an education policy which is Islamic.

There is no doubt the national education policy leaves out very much to be desired. However, the public outcry for an Islamic education policy is not a step in the right direction.

Nik Aziz should be realistic and pragmatic and not come up with statements which are not in the national interest.
