_______________
(Kuala
Lumpur,
Wednesday): At
the recent UMNO General Assembly, acting permanent chairman, Datuk
Badruddin Amiruldin (MP-Jerai) is quoted to have interjected and said as
follows after UMNO delegate Zaleha Hussin related a story about a friend
of hers who boarded budget airline AirAsia, “who told me how uncomfortable
it was looking at a seated stewardess with bare legs, thighs and calves”
“yes, we can see a tunnel under her skirt”.
There has been no correction sought by Badruddin up to date with regard to
the abovementioned quotation.
It must be assumed, therefore, that Badruddin has not been misquoted in
the NST. It is shocking that Badruddin should have,
at the UMNO General Assembly, used the words to such a large gathering of
UMNO delegates including women who do not appear to have objected to such
conduct. Badruddin is on record in Parliament to have used an abusive word
concerning one’s mother. What Badruddin has said demeans women. Badruddin
had no right to use the words. Obviously, Badruddin does not know how to
learn a lesson. A leopard cannot change its spots. On the other hand, a
leopard can be taught a lesson by confinement in a cage.
I call upon the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, to take
stern action against Badruddin for his outrageous conduct.
In the meanwhile, I call upon Badruddin to apologize publicly to all women
in the country within 7 days from today failing which the DAP will make
this a public issue and take him to task nationally.
