Barisa Judges do not, and cannot speak through the Executive
____________________ Karpal Singh
(Kuala Lumpur, Monday): I am surprised a senior judge has denied he was the one the lawyer was taking to in the video clipping of an alleged phone conversation between the two to discuss judicial appointments. The denial was made through the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz. This senior judge obviously does not understand the doctrine of separation of powers between the Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary. Judges do not, and cannot speak through the Executive. This senior judge should make the denial in person. In the meantime, I call upon the Chief Justice, Tun Ahmad Fairuz Dato’ Sheikh Abdul Halim, to convene an emergency meeting of the Council of Judges to discuss the crisis which has befallen the judiciary in the wake of the video clipping surfacing.
