DAP hopes that overwhelming public support for Fong Po Kuan’s
sterling performance as a conscientious parliamentarian would
make her reconsider her shocking decision not to recontest the
Batu Gajah parliamentary seat. Strenuous efforts are under way
by top party leaders and myself to attempt to contact Fong to
change her mind and stand again to represent not only Batu Gajah
voters but also be part of DAP’s movement of change that
represent the hopes and aspirations of all Malaysians.
The party is in full unanimity at all levels that she should
represent Batu Gajah and she has not been asked to move to
another seat. By not recontesting the seat, Batu Gajah may no
longer be safe. Both Batu Gajah and DAP would require her
services and abilities in Parliament to effectively voice their
problems and articulate a vision of justice, freedom, equal
opportunity, shared prosperity and integrity of a Malaysian
nation that belongs to all.
