Media Statement by Tony Pua in Petaling Jaya on Wednesday, 5th August 2009: Death threats against Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan are condemned and his safety must be protected by the police Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan, the MACC Chief who received anonymous death threats as an aftermath of the ill-fated MACC investigation into Teoh Beng Hock, should be given full protection by the police force. The anonymous letter found on July 24, contains foul language and a death threat by gunshot, addressed in particular to the MACC Chief, to avenge against the mysterious MACC custodial death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock. We strongly condemn such malicious and ruthless intentions, as they do not shed light to the investigation of the Teoh Beng Hock case, nor give justice to his death. Despite our grievances on the impartiality, effectiveness and efficiency of the MACC Chief, death threats by extremists is against our principles of humanity and law. The threats will only serve to impair investigations into the matter, and further obstruct the work of the MACC. We hope that the police could accelerate investigations to find the culprit behind such death threats, so that the MACC Chief could resume his duties at ease, and to focus his key responsibility on transforming MACC into a professional agency without fear or favour, and ensure that all the biggest corruption sharks in the country are brought to book. * Tony Pua Kiam Wee, DAP Publicity Secretary & MP for Petaling Jaya Utara
