Immediate Comment by DAPSY Secretariat in Petaling Jaya on Thursday, 6th May 2009: DAPSY staunchly condemns the police’s undemocratic crackdown operation in Ipoh today DAPSY is totally repulsed and agitated at the fallacious arrest of 3 DAPSY leaders and many DAPSY members in Ipoh this morning! DAPSY Deputy Chairperson Jenice Lee was dragged into a car and handcuffed while having her meal and being interviewed by a reporter in a restaurant this morning. DAPSY National Executive Committee Members Teo Kok Seong and Khoo Poay Tiong were also dragged into a car and handcuffed when they arrived at the scene to find out what happened. All three of them are state assemblypersons (ADUN). Many other DAPSY members were also arrested. What is shocking is the fact that they were not even participating in any gatherings or rallies at that time. They were merely wearing black clothes. What offence did they commit? Is wearing black a criminal offence? Many Pakatan Rakyat parliamentarians and state assemblypersons and their supporters were also arrested this morning. DAPSY staunchly condemns the police’s undemocratic crackdown operation in Ipoh today. DAPSY would like to stress again that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the pursuit of democracy and justice. Unfortunately, we are now being heralded into the dark age for democracy in Malaysia. * DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Secretariat
