Media statement by DAPSY Selangor State Committee in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday, 21stSeptember 2010:

DAPSY Klang AGM incident

The DAPSY Selangor state committee had an emergency meeting on 20 Sept 2010 to discuss matters pertaining to the Klang DAPSY AGM on 17 September 2010.

After an initial investigation, the state committee states the reasons for the postponement of the AGM:

1. Dispute over the membership list, with some quarters claiming it was not the most updated list, as well as allegations that members were not notified properly about the meeting.

2. The situation was getting tense, as some members had clearly come to the AGM to disrupt the meeting, such as the attempt to throw a chair by someone in the crowd.

We also wish to emphasize that various news reports about chairs being thrown were untrue and inaccurate. The individual who had threatened to throw a chair was not even a DAPSY member and had no right to be in the meeting. On top of that, a number of non-DAPSY members were present at the meeting.

3. The unprecedented high number of delegates overwhelmed the meeting's organisers, making it impossible for them to cope with the tense situation.

DAPSY Selangor has decided to form a working committee comprising DAPSY National Organising Secretary YB Teo Kok Seong, DAPSY Selangor Organising Secretary Rajiv Rishyakaran and Assistant Organising Secretary Edward Ling, to investigate the incident, in particular the status and validity of the membership list used at the Klang DAPSY AGM.
