DAP condemns extreme measures by Syrian government

The Democratic Action Party of Malaysia condemns the extreme measures taken by the Syrian government to suppress dissent in Hama, Deir al-Zor and other parts of Syria.

We call for the immediate end of hostilities towards a dialogue whereby all sides of the conflict can arrive to a peaceful resolution.

The DAP supports the fundamental unity and security of Syria but we believe that this can only be achieved through a transparent and reformed democratic process.

We are conscious of the problems that an unstable Syria would pose to the prospects for reater peace in the Middle East. We support all international efforts to broker a truce but affirm that international involvement should not occur at the expense of Syria's sovereignty.
