Media statement by M.Kula Segaran at the Solidarity with Ambiga event at Little India, Ipoh on Sunday, 27 th May 2012:

Call on the PM to show his rejection of such harassment against Datuk Ambiga and his preparedness to show solidarity with her

The huge turnout at the Bersih 3.0 sit in protest held on April 28 showed the people's determination in demanding free and fair elections.

428 will certainly go down in history as an important chapter in the people's struggle for a vibrant and true democracy.

Instead of accepting the 8 Bersih demands, the BN government has chosen to demonise the 428 rally.

In fact, when attending a recent function held in Kelantan, Najib has demonized the rally and declared fight in the election if you are anak jantan.

I have thrown him a counter challenge which he has not replied. I repeat my challenge here--Fight the Opposition fair and square. If you a true reformist, implement all the Berish demands now.

Let's see if he is prepared to take up this challenge.

I wish to take this opportunity to condemn the incessant harassment against Datuk Ambiga, violating her privacy and human rights.

Such harassment, coupled with the lack of necessary actions by the authorities against the perpetrators, have made Malaysia a laughing stock of the world.

Such harassment and attacks are totally unacceptable, disgraceful and must immediately cease.

I agree with Pak Samad's views that Ambiga is being targeted for her race, religion and to some extent, gender issues that are often played up by the powers-that-be. Let's not forget Ambiga was one of eight recipients of the US Secretary of State "International Women of Courage" Award in 2009. Her distracters must realize she is no push over!

All political parties must therefore support solidarity with Ambiga and the police must take the necessary actions to prevent any further infringement of her privacy and human rights.

I wish to call on the Prime Minister to show his rejection of such harassment against Ambiga and his preparedness to show solidarity with her by paying her a visit at her house.
