DAP will not participate in the rally organised by PAS in Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur tomorrow

The DAP will not participate in the rally organised by PAS in Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

The DAP decided this at its CEC meeting held on Wednesday night in Kuala Lumpur.

PAS is exercising its constitutional right to assemble peacefully. That is entirely up to them.

We have made our stand clear. We do not support the proposed amendments to the bill be it in its original or amended form. We have and will continue to oppose it in Parliament.

There have been many views expressed both for and against the amendments. This is part and parcel of the democratic process.

It is nevertheless our respectful view that there are valid concerns over the proposed amendments. Similar views have also been expressed by others including Professor Shad Saleem Faruqi in a forum last week and retired Court of Appeals Judge Dato Muhammad Ariff bin Md Yusof last night.

We will state our reasons in full when the motion comes up for debate in Parliament later.
