Wesak day is a special day for Buddhists in the country and around the world to honour the thrice blessed day of Gautama Buddha’s birth, His supreme englightnement and His attainment of mahaparinirvana. This year’s Wesak Day theme “Purifying Society to the Benefit and Nation and People“ reminds us of the importance of establishing good moral standard, a clean government and administration and upholding universal good values of mutual respect for diversity and upholding human dignity.
We have to overcome the wicked by goodness, overcome the liar by truth and overcome the evils of injustice with clean, fair and good governance. We have to overcome evils within the personal level, but also to combat the structural evils such as injustice and discriminating policies, corruption, abuse of powers as well as the extremism of discriminating and victimising minorities.
On this auspicious day, Malaysians have to reaffirm our belief in good value of honesty, generosity, mutual respect for diversity and respect for the rights of the minorities. We have to dedicated ourselves to promoting within our societies a clean, fair and good administration as these are the important ingredients that hold Malaysians together.
For this reason, DAP urges the Federal Government to come clean on 1MDB scandal as this have seriously affected the moral standard of our public institutions and international standing. There is an urgent need for structural reform of our public institutions and let us come together to combat evils at the structural level.
