Universiti Utara Malaysia lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusuf, today lodged a police report against Hannah Yeoh over her book “Becoming Hannah”. He stated that he was shocked to find that Hannah’s book contained parables and excerpts from the Bible and he believed this book is an attempt to persuade, influence or incite non-Christians including Muslims to embrace Christianity or become inclined towards Christianity.
Will Kamarul make a police report when his students say “Oh my God!” to his face? Or will he make a series of police reports in December when he listens to Christmas songs on the radio or in TV? His police report against Hannah has insulted the wisdom of Malaysia’s citizens. Our country’s Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and other non-Christians do not convert into Christianity just by reading Hannah’s book, which is merely an autobiography of her own life’s journey.
A majority of the comments on social media ridicule the UUM lecturer for being an extremist and is narrow-minded. Many citizens are worried about the quality of our local university lecturers after Kamarul’s statement. Kamarul should now conduct himself in a sensible and noble manner by retracting his police report immediately and to apologize to Hannah unreservedly.
