MACC must arrest and investigate Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya for improperly “supporting” a fake dentist, who was fined RM70,000 for practicing dentistry without a license, by appealing on her behalf

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission(MACC) must arrest and investigate Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya for improperly “supporting” a fake dentist, Nur Farahanis Ezatty Adli, who was fined RM70,000 for practicing dentistry without a license, by appealing on her behalf. MACC should arrest Hilmi to determine whether Hilmi had abused his powers in trying to “help” a bogus dentist who was practicing illegally.

Hilmi had a day earlier denied that he or anyone from his ministry gave their support to an individual who was found guilty of practising dentistry without a licence. Hilmy denial was quickly exposed as a lie.

However today he admitted that he had forwarded the bogus dentist’s(Nur) appeal letter to the Health Ministry’s Oral Health Division director “for consideration”, citing his duty as Balik Pulau MP. Hilmi admitted that a friend of his did come to see him about helping the woman. He reportedly said, “I was only doing my duty as an MP by acting upon an appeal letter submitted to me”.

He said in his capacity as a member of parliament, he made a call to the ministry director general and asked whether the woman could be reprimanded with only a fine or a compound. Hilmi claimed, “I was only doing my duty as a Member of Parliament to help those who are seeking my assistance”.

In an Instagram post, Nur Farahanis had claimed that her “business” was approved and granted by the Health Ministry and expressed gratitude to both Dr Hilmi and his private secretary, Aziaan Ariffin. The Sessions court in Malacca on September 29 had fined her RM70,000, in default six months’ jail.

Penang State EXCO member for Environment and Social Welfare, Phee Boon Poh, was arrested by MACC on 11 August for allegedly sending two appeal letters to Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai seeking a delay in demolition action against an illegal factory. If Phee can be arrested and investigated for sending two appeal letters in his capacity as a wakil rakyat, why should Hilmi be exempted from arrest when he had forwarded the fake, bogus and illegal dentist’s appeal letter to the Health Ministry?

MACC must arrest Hilmi to investigate possible abuse of power of helping and “supporting” an illegal dentist to prove that MACC acts impartially and professionally against all politicians, whether from BN or Pakatan. After all, Phee was also doing his duty as a wakil rakyat when he sent the appeal letters, and yet he was arrested.

There is therefore no reason for MACC not to arrest Hilmi. Failure to arrest Hilmi to investigate Hilmi, as MACC had done on Phee Boon Poh, could lend suspicions of double-standards which may undermine public confidence in the credibility of MACC.
