Deepavali Message
by Lim Kit Siang

(Petaling Jaya, Saturday): Malaysian Indians in particular and Malaysians in general should renew and  reaffirm their resolve to triumph over injustices and inequalities in the country in the spirit of Deepavali’s Festival of Light over Darkness.

Such commitment is all the more urgent in the post-September 11 world, which has cast an unprecedented  darkness all over the globe, justifying even more draconian and undemocratic erosion of the basic aspirations of peoples all over the world for human dignity, a decent life,  justice, freedom and good governance.

I wish all Malaysian Hindus as well as Malaysians regardless of race and religion  Happy Deepavali and urge all Malaysians to pause for a moment on this auspicious occasion  to reflect on the urgent need to commit ourselves to make our beloved Malaysia a better society for all its citizens, regardless of race, religion or political beliefs.
