PJ Utara MP and SA, MPPJ and the developers should compensate affected
villagers and take immediate action to resolve flash flood problem in Cempaka
Two floods in a week have brought nightmares to Cempaka New Villagers in
Petaling Jaya. They would have more sleepless nights ahead throughout the
monsoon period if the problem of flash floods were not resolved quickly.
One elderly villager hurt himself when he was trying to save his
belongings, and many others have lost their furniture, cooking utensils,
electrical goods in the biggest flood since 1992 last night. In our visit
last night, we found that one of the houses was almost destroyed
completely. The owner had lost practically everything in the flood, which
was estimated to no less than RM15, 000. We have helped the victim to
lodge a police report last night.
Almost every victim cited the housing projects upstream (Tropicana) as the main cause of the two floods. They also believed that the Sg Kayu Ara was too shallow, and the old bridge outside the village was too low and in the way of the mainstream. The DAP urges the BN elected representatives, MPPJ Chairman Datuk Emran Kadir and the developers to make compensations to the affected villagers and take immediate action to resolve the flood problem.
They should not wait any further as any delay is certainly deemed as an injustice to the villagers.
The DAP also urges the MP of PJ Utara Chew Mei Fun to make full use of her
RM3 million special grant, which was allocated to every BN Member of
Parliament as announced in the 2003 Budget. This amount is supposed to be
utilised before the end of December this year according to the media
report.
