I refer to the statement made by MCA Youth Kuala Lumpur Chief Mike Chong, reported by Malaysiakini today in an article entitled “Pemuda MCA : Jangan marah jika BN letak calon di 13 kerusi Wilayah”.
Firstly, their arrogant attitude is regrettable. If MCA Youth is truly sincere about fostering cooperation and unity, they should understand that any public announcement on seat allocation in Kuala Lumpur should only follow due consideration and discussion with the leaders from other component parties in the Unity Government.
DAP’s stronghold in Kuala Lumpur is undeniable, with Cheras represented by DAP for 9 terms, Bukit Bintang and Seputeh for 6 terms — all with strong majorities. DAP MPs have a duty to their voters and electorate, and statements undermining the trust and confidence placed in us are not to be taken lightly.
In the spirit of true collaboration, DAP does not publicly discuss “taking over” BN seat(s) because we understand that such matters should be addressed behind closed doors to avoid creating unnecessary confusion among the people.
Instead of dreaming about contesting more seats, MCA Youth should focus on delivering tangible improvements for KL residents. It’s time to work hard to gain public confidence in the unity government, especially in Kuala Lumpur. DAP is doing it, MCA Youth should start doing the same.
