The police must investigate the tweet by former Umno Youth leader Razlan Rafii, when he called for “puak DAP” (DAP people) to be shot.
Two days have passed since the Umno man made the statement and it shows that he has not been remorseful over his “shooting remark”. Calling it a jibe is no excuse to defend such a remark made. It is inappropriate for politicians to use life threatening words on others without having to face the legal repercussions. Failure on the part of the authority to probe Razlan will embolden others to make similar statements that could lead to an untoward incident.
No one, including Razlan, should be above the law. The police should not drag their feet to probe Razlan and subsequently charge him in the criminal court for his twitter remark, especially since such a word can have many ramifications.
In a statement, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq has also urged the police to investigate Razlan over his tweet. Syed Saddiq was recently called “stupid” and for that, Umno Youth executive council member Papagomo was charged in court; therefore, asking for innocent people to be shot is a more grievous crime.
If Razlan is allowed to use violent words without facing prosecution, the politic of hate, lies and race can only worsen and this might be a threat to our multiracial society. The best person to answer to the call for a probe on Razlan is none other than the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi bin Harun.
