{"id":33492,"date":"2011-08-03T08:22:47","date_gmt":"2011-08-03T00:22:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dapmalaysia.org\/en\/?p=33492"},"modified":"2011-08-03T08:22:47","modified_gmt":"2011-08-03T00:22:47","slug":"yellow-saturdays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dapmalaysia.org\/en\/yellow-saturdays\/","title":{"rendered":"Yellow Saturdays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Lim Kit Siang<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_656\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-656\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/dapmalaysia.org\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/tie-bersih-dun-selangor.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-656\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/dapmalaysia.org\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/tie-bersih-dun-selangor-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-656\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MPs in DUN Selangor selling yellow ties.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>DAP Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen have begun to wear yellow on July 16 to support the \u201cYellow Saturday\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n<p>We call on Malaysians to wear yellow every Saturday to support the Bersih 1Malaysia generation which came of age on 709, when Malaysians regardless of race, religion, region, age or gender braved police threats, mass arrests, tear gas and chemically-laced water cannons to endorse Bersih 2.0 demand for free and fair elections.<\/p>\n<p>This campaign is the beginning of the long march to A Clean Malaysia, not only in elections but also in political system and national governance.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of waking up to reality that has grossly mishandled the 709 Bersih 2.0 rally, the Barisan Nasional government is compounding its mistakes, demonstrating a deepening denial complex every other day.<\/p>\n<p>The BN\u2019s double phobia of Bersihphobia and xanthophobia (irrational fear of yellow) has escalated to a double madness \u2013 Bersihmania and xanthomania.<\/p>\n<p>The latest symptom of such worsening craziness is the statement by the Deputy Finance Minister, Awang Adek that Bank Negara could freeze the Bersih accounts \u2013 which evoked the instant response from millions of Malaysians in their homes and workplace why the accounts of the corrupt in tune of tens, hundreds of millions and even billions of ringgit have not been frozen!<\/p>\n<p>Every day, the Najib administration and BN government become a greater laughing stock, in the country and worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak\u2019s latest concession that there could be 15,000 people who came out peacefully in support of Bersih 2.0 rally is another example of a flip-flop, after the Inspector-General of Police had first said there were only 6,000 people and later contradicted by the Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein that at most there were 10,000 people!<\/p>\n<p>Malaysians know that there were tens of thousands more in the city on 709.\u00a0 But something is very wrong with a government when the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Inspector-General of Police are at odds about figures, showing they cannot even count!<\/p>\n<p>Najib should return reality and end the double madness of Bersihmania and xanthomania.<\/p>\n<p>Is there any brave and courageous Cabinet Minister who dare to stand and speak up in Cabinet to end such double madness?<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>All Malaysians should wear yellow every Saturday to support Bersih 1Malaysia generation coming of age and to demand a Clean Malaysia, starting with immediate release of PSM6, the end of BN double Bersih\/Xanthomania, lifting the ban on Bersih and establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry on free, fair and clean elections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Lim Kit Siang DAP Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen have begun to wear yellow on July 16 to support the \u201cYellow Saturday\u201d campaign.
