Landowners who are unable to pay the high land premium fees can apply and request to pay a minimal amount of RM 1000, while those who are unable to afford that amount will compensate in other ways.

“Many are unable to pay the rising land premium fees due to the rising market value of their land. Hence these landowners will be given land grants that will stipulate minimal land premium payment of RM1000,” Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said.

“For those who are unable to afford the RM 1,000 fee, monetary assistance will be provided by the state welfare services department (JKM) with the condition that the applicants perform community services in lieu of payment, that will be determined accordingly.

“With this Selangor citizens can continue to afford home ownership in the state. This way, landowners in the state will be responsible toward their properties and not take assistance for granted,” he added.

Minorities Affairs

Unlike the previous administration, PR has conscientiously taken tack into non-Muslim religious and minorities affairs.

A departure from the past, a non-Muslim council helmed by seven excos and state assemblymen together attended by seven main religious bodies looks into all applications for non-Muslim places of worship. Land applications for 147 sites have been approved for non-Muslim places of worship in the state since 2008. The state government has also given out RM12 million to 898 religious organisations.

In contrast to the previous administration’s tendency to use it as election period goodies, the PR state government has been systematically allocating land and funds for Chinese and Tamil vernacular language schools. From 2009 to 2011, around RM48 million has been disbursed to the various vernacular language and religious schools in Selangor.

People First

Selangor’s extensive welfare programmes, known by its Malay title Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES), is already into its fifth year running.
