In a statement yesterday (21 October 2021), the DAP veteran stressed that following nearly 2 years of political uncertainty and instability, a new political landscape is struggling to be born in our country, especially in finding an equilibrium amongst political parties.

Lim asserted,

“Malaysian political parties and Malaysians are still struggling to find an equilibrium in this new political landscape and this will take some time – months may be years.”

MP for Iskandar Puteri, Lim Kit Siang.

As such has prompted the signing of the historic Confidence-Supply-Reform Memorandum of Understanding (CSR MoU) between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the Federal Government on 13 September; something unheard of before in Malaysian politics. Furthermore, this may prove to be the start of a new political landscape where political parties must learn to cooperate for the sake of the nation as no single party can command a majority in Parliament.

Hence, that is why the Melaka State Election that is poised to take place this 20 November would prove to have a far-reaching implication not only for the state, but also for Malaysia as a whole. Commenting on the state election, the Iskandar Puteri MP opined that it should not be held at this moment of time given the Covid-19 situation in our country is yet to be fully under control and like the majority of Melakans and Malaysians, fears that it could spark a new wave of infections similar to the infamous Sabah State Election last year.

However, if the election is unavoidable, Lim has urged for the Melaka State Election to be a clean and honest one. Moreover, the DAP veteran also disagreed with calls by certain quarters that PH should tactically join with anyone in order to gain victory.

Lim stressed,

“If given the choice of victory by teaming with kleptocrats, opportunists and crooks or defeat by being consistent with political principles and integrity, I will opt for the latter.”

The Iskandar Puteri MP thus rejected any suggestion to field the four former Melaka State Assemblypersons (ADUNs) as PH candidates in the upcoming election.

The same sentiment was shared by the PH Presidential Council who previously released a statement rejecting former Pengkalan Batu ADUN Norhizam Hassan Baki as a candidate under the coalition.
