The time has come again to celebrate another testament to Malaysia’s diversity which is the Thaipusam. Thaipusam – a Hindu celebration widely believed to symbolise Murugan’s victory over the evil Soorapadman, is celebrated proudly and immensely across Malaysia each year.

Our DAP representatives also did not miss the chance to join in and participate in the celebration spanning across a week which include many devotees carrying kavadis and smashing coconuts.

In Penang, our representatives participated in making sure that all safety personnel were on site and that procession leading to the temple ran smoothly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Penang Chief Minister and DAP assemblypersons also managed to visit the vibrant Thaneer Panthal stalls in anticipation of the big day. These stalls, adorned with festive decorations, embody the spirit of community and generosity, offering free food and drinks to devotees during Thaipusam.

Reps also took this opportunity to visit and climb up Batu Caves, arguably one of the most significant landmarks for all Hindu devotees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selangor Chief Minister, Dato Seri Amirudin Shari
seen extending LIMAS financial aid in the sum of RM516,000 in celebration of this event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Perak, reps such as Sdr Sivanesan Achalingam, Sdr M. Kulasegaran, Sdri Thulsi Manogaran and Sdri Jenny Choy were seen celebrating at the Ipoh Kallumalai Murugan Temple adorning beautiful colours to mark the celebration. They also took pictures with the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, fondly known as Abang-abang Bomba that were on hand in case of an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was interesting about the Perak celebration was that there were visible signs to keep the temple clean and to dispose of trash responsibly.

In revelling the colourful pictures displayed in social media, one message seems to ring true for all, that unity and diversity has to be protected. That we are nothing without each other and we must do all that we can to not only embrace, but to celebrate each other’s festivities and beliefs.
