{"id":50878,"date":"2025-07-01T10:51:50","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T02:51:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dapmalaysia.org\/en\/?p=50878"},"modified":"2025-07-01T10:51:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T02:51:50","slug":"petronas-should-be-held-responsible-for-all-losses-caused-by-the-putra-heights-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dapmalaysia.org\/en\/petronas-should-be-held-responsible-for-all-losses-caused-by-the-putra-heights-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"Petronas Should Be Held Responsible for All Losses Caused by the Putra Heights Fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"s5\">1. <span class=\"s2\">I refer to the long-awaited investigation report regarding the Putra Heights fire.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">2. <span class=\"s2\">The <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), responsible for the technical assessment of the incident, <\/span><span class=\"s2\">has <\/span><span class=\"s2\">concluded that sections of the pipeline failed due to cyclic stress and inadequate support from the terrain beneath.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">3. <span class=\"s2\">Husdin<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> Che <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Amat<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, director of DOSH\u2019s petroleum safety division, explained that unstable soil conditions were the primary factor causing structural weaknesses in the pipeline, which led to gas leaks and the subsequent fire.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">4. <span class=\"s2\">Yesterday, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that the investigation into the Putra Heights fire found no evidence of sabotage, negligence, or criminal intent.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">5. <span class=\"s2\">While I agree with Datuk Hussein that there appears to be no sabotage or criminal intent, I respectfully disagree that negligence was absent.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">6. <span class=\"s2\">As the owner of the pipeline, Petronas should have ensured that all their assets were maintained in proper condition.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">7. <span class=\"s2\">Undergrou<\/span><span class=\"s2\">n<\/span><span class=\"s2\">d conditions should not be an excuse for a large-scale structural failure of this magnitude.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">8. <span class=\"s2\">Therefore, Petronas must take full responsibility for the losses caused by the Putra Heights fire.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">9. <span class=\"s2\">Although the government and the public have provided various forms of financial aid to the fire victims, for many, this assistance is insufficient to compensate for the physical, mental, and psychological losses incurred.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">10. <span class=\"s2\">I call on Petronas to <\/span><span class=\"s2\">accept <\/span><span class=\"s2\">its responsibility and provide full compensation to all victims of the Putra Heights fire, reflecting their actual loss.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\">11. <span class=\"s2\">Additionally, Petronas must immediately conduct comprehensive structural assessments of the entire 2,623 km Peninsular gas pipeline network to ensure such incidents never occur again.<\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s7\">Yeo Bee Yin<br \/>\nMP For Puchong<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
