Media statement by Lau Weng San in Petaling Jaya on Thursday, 21st October 2010:

Challenge MCA Selangor to show evidence

I challenged Selangor MCA public complaints bureau deputy chairman Kelvin Chong to provide evidence that the state government only allocate RM20,000 to Sungai Way Village Development and Security Committee (Jawatankuasa Keselamatan dan Kemajuan Kampung-JKKK)

Otherwise, he is making unfounded accusation against the state government, the JKKK and myself as Assemblyman for Kampung Tunku.

The state government allocated RM5.4million to the development of all the new villages in Selangor. Instead of dividing the funds equally among all the new villages in the state, the funds were given based on priority.

It will mean that new villages with urgent needs will be given priority while those with better infrastructure will be given less. Moreover, Petaling Jaya City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya-MBPJ) also assists the JKKK in providing better infrastructure to the villagers.

Sungai Way new village benefitted from the resourceful MBPJ's budget. Unlike other new villages and traditional Malay villages which depend very much on grants from the state government and federal government, most of the public facilities in the new village are under the jurisdiction of MBPJ.

From this year onwards, the state government is also allocating RM10,000 to each JKKK in Selangor to carry out their activities and the extra allocation is generated from the increment of sand revenue. Moreover, I also use my constituency development fund to assist the JKKK in carrying out their activities and functions and the details are available in my blog.

I still remember how Kelvin Chong got his fact wrong when he criticized me one month ago for rejecting an application from Petaling Jaya Chinese Cemetery (PJCC) to rebuild a retaining wall in their compound when the chairman of PJCC clarified the next day that PJCC has neither approached nor applied from my office for funds to repair the retaining wall.

I hope that Kelvin Chong is not making another mockery of himself.
