Media statement (2) by Dr. Hiew King Cheu in Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday, 19th April 2011:

Tun Mahathir wrong on DAP's big win in Sarawak

The ex-PM Tun Dr. Mahatir's comment on the Sarawak just over state election was saying that the DAPs have introduced and brought in the "racial politic" in Sarawak.

The retired ex-PM Dr. Mahatir had actually insulted the intelligent of the Sarawak by making such a baseless statement. He is totally wrong and may be he feels very bitter about the big achievement by the DAP in the state election. He had also started a racial, segregation, differentiation and trying to instigate racial tension among the peaceful Sarawakian who had live in a harmonious relationship and brother hood nature for a long time since independence day. The words from him is not only uncalled for but totally seen as an act of splitting the racial harmony in Sarawak.

The win of the DAP in Sarawak should be seen as the win of the Sarawakian, and fully demonstrated their wish to change and their will to seek a different leadership and representative. They had expressed their feeling towards the bad management of the BN government and the bad performance of the previous representatives. Therefore they have decided to change them for the DAP reps.

The voters in Sarawak who supported the DAP candidates are of multi-racial and they do not represent any group of race. They are solely Malaysian Sarawakian who wanted to see changes being done for their future and well being. It is not like Dr. M who mentioned on racial politics being introduced into Sarawak. We do not accept such ill comments from a person who is so inconsiderate and trying to break up racial harmony.

I was helping out in the Sarawak state election campaign work for the passed weeks and I had never heard any one mentioned about racial problem and trying to use any racial topics in the campaign. The whole course of the Sarawak campaign where he had worked with the Sarawak Bumiputera in the many local kampongs was so well done and there were no racial and religion conflicts. It was so peaceful and professionally executed. The Sarawak Bumiputeras were like brothers and sisters and we had a good time together. We respected each other and worked side by side, and that is the key to our big win in Sarawak. We DAP are being loved and supported by all because we are not racist and not religious oriented.

Since now Dr. M had started it again, the people in Malaysia will judge and rethink about what was said by him. We will not be inference by the words from him but we feel sorry and deeply regretted to hear those words from him. Dr. M should rethink and for the sake of the harmony of the country, he should withdraw what he said about DAP in Sarawak and in the whole Malaysia.
