Media statement by Loke Siew Fook in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, 11th July 2011:

Ng Yen Yen must come clean over her PR status issue and Chua Soi Lek should stop giving lame excuses by blaming Anwar

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen must not only apologize to Malaysians but also to the Australian Government for taking advantage of the Australian PR status for her son's education. Ng Yen Yen must explain whether she applied for the Australian PR status in the 1990s with the intention to enjoy cheaper education fees for her son? She had said that she gave up the PR status in 1995 after her son graduated.

If this is true, how can she face the Australian Government when discharging her duties as the Tourism Minister of Malaysia? It's a shame for a Malaysian Minister to face a foreign government when the former had taken advantage of the latter or worse if she had cheated and withheld certain crucial information when she was PR of the country.

What is even more puzzling is the response from the MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek over the matter when he blamed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for making it difficult for non-bumiputera students such as Ng Yen Yen's son to enter local universities during his tenure as Education Minister.

The man who always boasted himself as speaking with "facts and figures" got even the simple facts wrong! Anwar was not the Education Minister in the 1990s. He was Education Minister from 1986 to 1990. Anwar was the Finance Minister from 1991 to 1998 and Deputy Prime Minister from 1993 to 1998 until he was sacked by Dr Mahathir.

Is Chua Soi Lek now admitting that MCA Ministers in the Cabinet were so useless and hopeless that they had not influence whatsoever over our education policies and they just let the UMNO Education Minister to "make life difficult" for the non-bumi students?

Chua Soi Lek is again "shooting himself in the foot" by making such unintelligent remarks. Soi Lek should look into the mirror before accusing that Lim Guan Eng had no points in their recent Debate 2.0. Let the public judge who is more convincing and for those who missed the debate, they can watch the replay on Astro AEC and AWANI this Sunday.
