DAP condemns mass killings in Egypt and calls on Malaysian government to review its position on Egypt

We call on Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman to advise the Government to review its position on Egypt, following the latest mass killings that have taken place last weekend.

The DAP condemns the latest mass killings of the supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi by Egyptian security forces.

The death toll from weekend clashes in Cairo alone was reported to have reached 72 on Sunday.

More than 200 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood have been killed since President Morsi was ousted in a coup on 3rd July. Many were reported to have been shot in the head or chest in the latest incident.

The situation gravely requires the world's attention and action. The Malaysian government, as a responsible world leader, must review its position on Egypt.

Thus far, the Foreign Ministry has held the view that Malaysia will not meddle in Egypt's "internal affairs".

This policy of no-interference is outdated especially in this instance when the Muslim world awaits Malaysia's stand.

If Malaysia does not speak up for truth, peace, human rights and democracy in the Muslim world, who else will?
