Slanderous remarks by Najib a reflection of the fear of UMNO that more and more Malays are deserting UMNO

I categorically reject the statement by the PM Najib Razak that a vote for the DAP will see Islam being oppressed. This slanderous remarks has no basis and is a reflection of the fear of UMNO that more and more Malays are openly supporting the DAP and deserting UMNO.

It should be noted that ever since Penang came under the control of the Pakatan Rakyat, the State Government headed by the DAP funding for Islamic Affairs has increased tremendously. Land worth RM80 million has been set aside for the building of the Mahkamah Syariah Pulau Pinang. The State Government has increased monthly allowances for Islamic officials as well as allocated funds for the Sekolah Agama Rakyat.

Therefore it is very clear that the increasing support of Muslims for the DAP’s has caused UMNO to panic. Muslim support the DAP because they are aware that the party respects the position of Islam in the Malaysian Constitution and the party accepts Islam as the religion of the Federation. Last but not least it is now accepted that the DAP upholds the values of Islam seriously as can be seen in its commitment to oppose corruption and uphold democracy, accountability and transparency in governance.
