When mothers begin joining rallies, you know your Malaysia is in trouble and needs saving from a Government that is corrupt, racist, sexist and abuses power

In another 2 days Malaysians will vote in the most battled out elections in the history of the country, that after 60 years, Malaysians will be able to claim rights to our ‘tanahair’ and to bring Malaysia back to its right course.

Pakatan Harapan rallies all over the nation, particularly in UMNO or even MCA, MIC and GERAKAN fortresses during this election campaign period, bore witness to tremendous turnouts of Malaysians from all walks of life who had braved unpredictable weather with scorching hot sun and heavy rain, muddy ceramah venues, heavy traffic and congestion about just to be part of the movement, the excitement and the momentum for winds of change that is blowing through this land.

This time around saw many, many housewives, mothers and women alike standing shoulder to shoulder with other Malaysians to demand for accountability, integrity, honesty and and end to corruption, abuse of power and tyranny.

After 60 years and 13 General Elections later, mothers are now at the forefront of rallies and ceramahs and even walkabouts demanding now for a government that is of the people, by the people and for the people.

In other words, mothers as protectors and disciplinarians have now taken matters into their own hands, coming together, as a force in protecting the nation from a rag-tag assortment of men and women in the Barisan Nasional government in the form of bandits, thieves, robbers, liars and pirates by heeding the war call for change.

This is to say that mothers will make their presence known and felt come this Mother of All Elections to ensure that the right government is chosen so that policies pertaining to the rights and protection of children be put together, so that women’s voices will be heard in and outside the Dewan Rakyat so that their rights can be guarded, so that better practices are in place to assist women back into the labour force and to provide affordable childcare to all working mothers, to empower women to speak up without fear and for men to be sensitized on gender equality, for more women to hold decision making positions, and for women to be part of this clarion call for change.

Mothers have borne witness to how the Barisan Nasional government treats critical issues on childcare, sexual crimes against children and how they have failed to strengthen the family structure after being 60 years in power.

It’s time to see what a more competent, accountable, transparent, clean government as seen under the two Pakatan Harapan leaderships in Penang and Selangor have proven over the past 10 years, putting women, youths and children in the forefront using only the best practices used by other more developed nations.

Having more female candidates contesting under the Pakatan Harapan banner has inadvertently brought out more women, especially mothers to stand together to demand, and call out for change.

When mothers begin joining rallies, you know your Malaysia is in trouble and needs saving from a Government that is corrupt, racist, sexist and abuses power.

The hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world. Come 9th May, the same hands will also protect a nation and discipline a corrupt regime.

Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there, especially to my mother Mary Patto and to my sister Shaalini Anne Patto.
