I refer to the movement by some NGOs to boycott non-Muslim products and businesses. The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government has called for a stop to this movement because it would harm the harmony in our multi-racial and multi-religion country. Meanwhile the opposition leaders from UMNO and PAS have not been condemning such boycotts.
I call on all Malaysians and all political parties to denounce the campaign by the irresponsible quarters to boycott non-Muslim products and businesses because such campaign is only hurting our local economy. Take for example our staple food, rice. If this boycott targets certain brands of rice purportedly owned by certain race, it will only hurt the padi growers. Most of the padi growers are based in Kedah, the rice bowl of Malaysia. If the campaign is successful, rice industry players will be forced to buy lesser rice from the padi growers. At the end, who suffers? Same with the palm oil industry. The boycott will only cause the palm oil farmers to suffer.
Based on the above examples, every Malaysians should promote and be proud to use all our Malaysian produced products. Only then can our local industries grow to greater heights.
We, regardless of colour, live and sink together in one big ship called Malaysia. So, I urge all to “CINTAI DAN BELILAH BARANGAN BUATAN MALAYSIA”. Forget the boycott and let’s move on together in unity. Resist any attempt to divide our beloved country over race or religion. Enough is enough!
