Wee Ka Siong and Selangor MCA should not be throwing stones from glass houses with regards to the Selangor guidelines for non-Muslim places of worship. While DAP senior exco Teng Chang Khim has publicly apologized, taken responsibility and pledge to rectify the oversight, the same cannot be said of MCA.
MCA, whilst it was government in Selangor, approved and endorsed similar guidelines, including the rule of 50m from a Muslim household and height restriction in the first and original Selangor Town and Country Planning Guidelines.
These requirements were taken away by the Pakatan Rakyat Selangor government in 2010 when it published the second edition of the Selangor Town and Country Planning Guidelines. While DAP has quickly owned up and is making quick steps to rectify the error, the same cannot be said of Selangor MCA, who endorsed these very same policies in its time as government.
MCA should be mindful that it is part of the Johor, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan state governments that also have in place such guidelines, limiting places of worship to either 50m or 100m for a Muslim home, as well as height restrictions.
Will MCA (as well as MIC and Gerakan) stop politicking and own up to these as well?
