Today’s Parliament sitting is a clear collaboration between PAS and UMNO to have Hadi’s RUU355 Hudud Bill Motion formally tabled and read out in Parliament

Today’s Parliament sitting is a clear collaboration between PAS and UMNO to have Hadi’s RUU355 Hudud Bill Motion formally tabled and read out in Parliament, with Hadi proposing and PAS’ Kota Bharu MP Taki seconding Hadi’s motion.

Yesterday, Parliament sat till record 5:00 a.m. this morning to see the BN Government rushing through 6 Government Bills and withdrawing 3 on the Order Paper.

This was done solely for the purpose that Hadi’s Hudud Bill Motion can be tabled as the first item in the Order Paper for today’s sitting.

Today, Hadi started tabling his motion at 12:00 noon. Thereafter Taki spoke to second his motion till 4:00 p.m.

When the Opposition MPs were ready to speak to oppose the motion, suddenly at 4:00 p.m., the Speaker ruled that the debate on Hadi’s Bill will take place in the next Parliament meeting and immediately adjourned the meeting.

The 2-day episode saw the worst of manipulation of the Parliament proceedings to suit the political strategy of UMNO and PAS:

  1. BN Minister extends the parliament meeting beyond the normal 5:00 p.m. till 5:00 a.m. the next day to rush through the Government Bills in a single-day sitting;
  2. BN Minister withdraws the Government Bills to give way to a non-Government (PAS) MP’s motion;
  3. The whole day of Parliament sitting dedicated for a non-Government MP’s motion to be tabled and seconded; and
  4. After the Motion was tabled and seconded, the Speaker immediately adjourned the meeting without giving the opposition MPs to debate and present their views in the meeting.

This obvious manipulation and playing of religious issue by the ruling UMNO and PAS clearly shows that the non-UMNO parties in BN are just irrelevant in the decision-making process of the Government.

The other non-UMNO parties in the BN coalition either knew about and consent to this arrangement between PAS and UMNO or they are simply kept in the dark about it. Either way, it is high time these non-UMNO BN parties re-think their position and role in the whole ruling coalition.

The people should not be continued to be fooled by the so-called “power sharing” concept of the BN. The incident today has proven beyond doubt about the conspiracy of UMNO and PAS and that in BN, UMNO’s interest reins supreme and other parties’ existence are simply irrelevant or just for decorative purpose.
