Police report lodged against UMNO Youth Education Bureau Chairman, Dr.
Adham Baba for his statement to call for the closure of all Chinese Primary

(Petaling Jaya, Friday): I
had just lodged a police report against UMNO Youth Education Bureau
Chairman, Dr. Adham Baba for his statement to call for the closure of all
Chinese Primary Schools. His statement was in response to the opposition of
Dong Jiao Zong in the issue of teaching of Science and Mathematic in English
appeared on the official website of UMNO Youth on 13th November 2002.
The DAPSY delegation with me today are DAPSY National Assistant Organizing
Secretary, Raymond Chong, DAPSY Petaling Jaya Division Chief, John Chung,
DAPSY Bukit Bintang Division Chief, Ooi Leng Han and DAPSY Cheras Division
Organizing Secretary, Ean Yong Hian Wah.
My police report reads as follow:
"UMNO Youth Education Bureau Chairman, Dr. Adham Baba had
on 13th November 2002 called on the government to close all Chinese Primary
Schools in the country and set up single stream schools in Malaysia in a
statement which appeared on the UMNO Youth website (www.pemudaumno.org.my).
The following is an extract of the statement on the website:
"Pengerusi Biro Pendidikan, Pergerakan Pemuda UMNO Malaysia, Dr Adham Baba
berkata penutupan semua SJKC ini wajar memandangkan sikap prejudis
berterusan kedua-dua pertubuhan terbabit terhadap apa jua rancangan
pendidikan yang ingin dilakukan kerajaan."
The statement violates the Sedition Act, as decided by the 1971 case
involving Utusan Melayu which was found guilty of sedition for carrying a
report with the sub-heading "Hapuskan Sekolah-Sekolah Beraliran Tamil
atau China di-Negeri ini", which was held as questioning one of the four
entrenched sensitive issues in the Constitution, viz: Article 152 (1) (a)
that "no person shall be prohibited or prevented from
using (otherwise than for official purposes), or from teaching or learning,
any other language".
The statement further threatens racial harmony in Malaysia when Dr. Adham
remarked:
"Mereka mungkin lupa, tolak ansur kita ada batasannya. Kita harap mereka
tidak cuba-cuba untuk menguji kita kerana kita tahu perkara-perkara sensitif
seperti ini bakal mengundang bencana." tegasnya
The police and the Attorney General Chambers should
immediately investigate the statement made by Dr. Adham Baba and charge him
under the Sedition Act as his statement directly questioned one of the four
entrenched sensitive issues in the Constitution and threatened racial
harmony among Malaysians."
Dr. Adham Baba's statement is most racist and seditious. Dong Jiao Zong
has every right to voice their opposition to the teaching of Science and
Mathematics in English as the whole issue is an education issue. It is most
uncalled for as such a debate on government policy pertaining to an
education issue had been politicized for the interest of UMNO Youth and
responded with such a racist threat.
I call on UMNO Youth Chief, Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein to immediately order
the removal of the statement from UMNO Youth official website and make a
public apology to all Malaysians.
