Penang DAP ask State Police Chief to break silence over senseless attack on first day of Chinese New Year in Penang

(Penang, Friday): Today, the Sun published a letter written by reader, Madam EER from Penang, expressing her frustration that the Penang police have not been able to solve the case of a senseless attack against her husband six months ago, on the first day of Chinese New Year.

Madam EER, her husband and daughter were assaulted by a neighbour’s son and another 13 men from a lion dance troupe performing in the neighbourhood.

Madam EER’s husband was admitted to the intensive care unit and hospitalized for ten days.

Madam EER said: “Police reports have been made but our assailants have not been caught.Whenever I call up the officer in charge of our case, all we get is “tengah siasat” (being investigated).

“It has been the most frustrating six months of my life, knowing that the neighbour’s son is still on the loose.

“I am also waiting news from the officer in charge. What have they been doing about my case?”

This is a legitimate voice from an ordinary citizen, who is dissatisfied with the performance of the police.

The police must have sympathetic ears for the woes of the ordinary citizens. It should not be dismissed as “utter rubbish” although it may be a lone voice in desperation.

Penang police chief DCP Datuk Othman Talib should personally take up the case presented by Madam EER and solve the matter in a few days.

He should make amend for his earlier remark that the views of 212 respondents, who took part in an opinion poll conducted by the Penang DAP on the performance of the Penang police, are “utter rubbish”.

Every voice (like that of Madam EER) counts in our society and the Penang CPO should know better than to dismiss it as “utter rubbish”.
