We propose that the Malaysian Government set up a Special Commission to investigate the “Federal Special Forces of Malaysia” (FSFM), so that the people shall know the whole truth

Media Statement
by Dr Tan Seng Giaw

(Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday): On 26 July, 2003, the Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Badawi said: “Investigations are under way and will be comprehensive.” This is not enough. Let us have a truly comprehensive investigation, the report of which will then be tabled in Parliament.

The police detained 23 members of FSFM on 25 July, 2003, followed by the arrest of its leader “General” Nor Azami Ahmad Ghazali who claimed that he was destined to be prime minister.

The Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Mahahthir Mohamad  remarked on the same day: “Well, there are crazy people in the country who are inspired by all kinds of nonsense.”

The media say that there are 8,000 FSFM members. Hitherto, only 2,820 have surrendered to the police.

How does FSFM carry out its overt and covert activities? Apparently, the police happened on the organization during an investigation on fraud. FSFM have uniforms, ranks, handcuffs and so forth, mimicking a paramilitary outfit. There were reports of extortions such as on video centres, counterfeiters and factories. Who are FSFM members? How do they have their clandestine operations? To what extent are these connected with rampant corruptions?

We oppose any form of terrorism whether it be Jemaah Islammiyah, Kumpulan Militan Malaysia, Al-Ma’unah or Al Qaeda. But, the police investigations mentioned by the Deputy Prime Minister do not provide the whole truth to the public. We must know the details of this paramilitary outfit, so that together we can prevent similar organizations. Maybe, we can help to reduce the gullibility of some people.
