Abdullah should set an example to all Cabinet Ministers and government leaders including Deputy Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Mentri Besar, Chief Ministers, MPs and State Assembly members to explain their relationship and association with the bogus FSFMMedia Statement by Lim Kit Siang (Petaling Jaya, Tuesday): After the Saturday threat by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to the Emergency Action Team of Malaysia (PCTM) chief Munsyi Muslim Yacob to substantiate the claim that certain Cabinet ministers were involved with the bogus Federal Special Forces of Malaysia (FSFM) or face action, Munsyi said he would prove his claims that “certain ministers and several senior ministry officials were involved” in supporting FSFM. (The Star 4.8.03) Munsyi also said that he had documents and eye-witnesses to back up the claims that FSFM, set up by sacked PCTM members with Nor Azami Ahmad Ghazali as their leader, had received “support” from high-ranking officials. Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said police would investigate the allegations that certain ministers were involved in the bogus paramilitary movement which had carried out a RM64 million scam deceiving some 8,000 people selling fake military ranks. Abdullah said however that he was certain that no minister was involved in the FSFM although there was the possibility some of them might have been approached. So far, one Cabinet Minister, Datuk Dr. Rais Yatim, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and the Perlis Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim have owned up publicly as having been approached. Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Jamaluddin Ahmad Damanhuri said yesterday that civil servants, including teachers, found to be linked with the FSFM may be sacked. Does this rule apply to all government leaders, whether Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Mentri Besar, Chief Minister, Members of Parliament or State Assemblymen – that they would be sacked for involvement with FSFM? Abdullah should also explain the basis for his statement and confidence that no Minister was involved in the FSFM and that at most, some of them might have been approached? The Cabinet tomorrow should issue a general directive to all Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Mentri Besar, Chief Ministers, Members of Parliament and State Assembly members to own up publicly if they have any dealings with FSFM and explain why they had failed to alert the relevant authorities about the bogus FSFM and its RM64 million scam selling fake military ranks at the first available opportunity. Abdullah should be aware that he is one of the Cabinet Ministers whose name is linked to the bogus FSFM on the Internet. He should set an example to all Cabinet Ministers and government leaders including Deputy Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Mentri Besar, Chief Ministers, MPs and State Assembly members to explain the relationship and association he had with the bogus FSFM or he should come out with a straightforward denial. In this connection, the complaint by Munsyi that he had lodged at least 10 police reports over the last two years against the illegal activities of the sacked PCTM members using the name and logo of PCTM and later the bogus FSFM with no action taken warrants a proper and satisfactory response from the Police and the Home Ministry.
