DAPSY condemns the Bush Administration for their unilateral action of continuously pushing the button towards war in Iraq

Media Statement

(Petaling Jaya, Friday): DAPSY will join the international community to demonstrate against the United States unilateralism on the impending war against Iraq on February 15th 2003 both in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

DAPSY which is part of the “Stop the War Coalition” in Malaysia will join all peace loving organizations and individuals, NGOs, trade unions, religious groups and other political parties both in Malaysia and worldwide in this massive peace demonstration which will be held simultaneously on the same day in more than 350 cities around the world.

DAPSY condemns the Bush Administration for their unilateral action of continuously pushing the button towards war in Iraq. The news report today that the US Special Operation Forces have been already in Iraq for than a month to lay the groundwork for a ground invasion showed that Bush has nothing in mind except launching war in Iraq which will eventually lead to the deaths of millions of innocent Iraqis and to sow the seeds of more terrorist groups in the whole world. The Bush Administration has shown utter contempt for the United Nations and totally ignored the wishes of other members of the United Nations who tried to solve the Iraq issue through diplomatic means and give further times for the UN Arm Inspectors to inspect the alleged Weapons of Mass Destructions (WMD) owned by Iraq.

While DAPSY agrees that Iraq must disarm all their Weapons of Mass Destructions without any conditions if the UN Arm Inspector can prove that they owns it, all other superpowers particularly the United States must reciprocally take the same action by disarming all their nuclear weapons and other WMD to ensure a peaceful world in the 21st century. No country in the world shall claim to have the discretionary power to own any WMD for any reasons.

The Bush Administration must rectify their failure in their so-called “War against Terror” which Bush tried to hunt down Osama bin Laden. The US has not only failed to capture Osama bin Laden but has sowed the seeds for terrorism and make the American interest more vulnerable throughout the world. Bush is now trying to shift the attention of the American people from Osama bin Laden to Saddam Hussein which will eventually bring sufferings to millions of innocent Iraqis.

Bush must heed the opinions of the overwhelming majority of the world’s populations who stand united in opposing the war in Iraq. DAPSY will mobilize our leaders and members to attend the peace protest in Kuala Lumpur and Penang tomorrow and we call upon all peace-loving Malaysians to join the international voices to oppose war in Iraq through this peaceful demonstration.
