WANTED: Triad Boss an MCA Leader
Media Statement
by Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew
(Petaling Jaya,
Friday):
Malaysians must have been
shocked in disbelief when they read the headline in Malay Mail front-page
story today, featuring the triad boss of the Sio Sam Ong and the party boss
of the MCA together.
Police have issued a
nation-wide police alert on Wednesday to arrest a suspected Penang triad
kingpin, who is also MCA Gurney Drive chairman. The branch is under the MCA
Bukit Bendera division of which Penang MCA chief Wong Kam Hoong is chairman.
According to the same report,
police have issued the alert for Ong King Ee a.k.s Jackie Chan, for actively
trying to revive his notorious Sio Sam Ong (Three Little Emperors) secret
society which is linked to murder, dadah trafficking, kidnapping and
robbery.
Penang MCA Chief Wong Kam Hoong
was quoted as saying " Ong, 37, joined the MCA in 2000, was wanted by the
police, it was unfair to act against him- unless he has done something
wrong."
He said Ong is innocent until
proven otherwise. He also said that Ong has been an active member since
joining the MCA.
The same report said that in
1992, the Sio Sam Ong had allegedly sent hired killers to storm a
pre-wedding ceremony and eliminate six people in Taman Bersatu, Sg Petani.
Ong has gone missing before the
killing, but was later arrested in Bangkok and escorted back to Malaysia. He
was placed under detention for an unspecified time for drug trafficking.
In 1996, he was sent to Simpang
Renggam rehabilitation centre in Johor, under the Emergency ordinance. It is
learned that Ong joined the MCA in 2000, three years after his release from
the centre.
One may wonder why a person
with such a "colourful" record like Ong King Ee was accepted as an MCA
member, as the party always has someone appointed as a deputy home affairs
minister. Party boss Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting himself was a deputy home
minister before 1999. The present deputy home minister is Datuk Chor Chee
Heung from Kedah. It's hard to believe that both Ong and Chor do not know
the background of "Jackie Chan".
It was MCA Youth chief Datuk
Ong Tee Keat who openly declared that triad members infiltrated MCA. The
recent development has clearly shown that his allegation was not baseless.
