Khir Toyo should not try to save his own skin by just removing the MPAJ Chairman but must assume personal responsibility by owning up to his own failings and conduct  a full shake-up of the State exco, all state government departments and local authorities

Media Statement
by Lim Kit Siang

(Petaling JayaMonday):  The announcement by the Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Khir Toyo to remove the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council president Ahmad Kabit to restore public confidence in the local authority smacks of a poorly-veiled attempt to save his own skin as he had only earlier this month vouched for the performance of the MPAJ.

Khir’s warning to all  council presidents and local councillors to perform or face the same fate is only meaningful if there is a full sacking or resignation  of the councillors of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, as they must bear complete  responsibility for the notoriety which MPAJ  had acquired not only in Selangor but throughout the country.

In fact, Khir should not try to save his own skin by just  removing the MPAJ Chairman but must assume personal responsibility by owning up to his own failings and conduct  a full shake-up of the State exco, all state government departments and local authorities, which must include at minimum the following removals:

  • MPAJ Chairman;
  • All  MPAJ Councillors; and
  • State Exco Member in charge of Local Government, Datuk Mohktar Ahmad Dahalan.

Jeffooi in his blog (http://www.malaysiakini.com/jeffooi/) on June 10 had referred to the complaint by a  Petaling Jaya resident who had sent 30 odd emails to the Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya (MPPJ) without getting any reply or acknowledgement.  This PJ resident had also spoken to me about his complaint.

Will the MPPJ now respond  to his 30 odd emails failing which is Khir prepared to come down hard on the MPPJ removing its President and its Councillors to make it another example to all the other local councils?
