Stop lying to the
people. Take responsibility for the irresponsible acts of the State
Government Press Statement by Ngeh Koo Ham (Ipoh, Wednesday): I refer to the statement by the Perak State Local Government Committee Chairman, Datuk Chang Ko Youn that the plans to demolish factory units in the light industrial estate near Lintasan Perajurit 17, Ipoh have not been shelved. I challenged Datuk Chang Ko Youn to say that his statement was not a pre-General Election lie in order to save Gerakan Assemblyman, Datuk Hiew Yew Can from losing the Taman Canning State seat in the coming General Election.
If the Menteri Besar who has promised to demolish the factory units is unable to do so after so many years, who is Datuk Chang Ko Youn to give such further promise that they will be demolished ?
The said factory units are only an example where the State Government approves projects not in accordance with the purpose for which the use of the land has been designated.
DAP Perak has received complaints that lands designated for recreation parks have been alienated to individuals for commercial or building purposes. One such example is a the field in Taman Dindings, Ayer Tawar. More protests will be coming when buildings are being erected on this field.
DAP Perak calls on Datuk Chang Ko Youn to resign to take responsibility for these blunders. The State Government should also bring to book all those responsible in approving these projects at the expense of the public.. The Perak DAP calls on the Anti-Corruption Agency to investigate if there were corrupt practices in all these approvals. (8/10/2003) * Ngeh Koo Ham, DAP Perak Chairman
