We call on the Works Minister to release the report on the Middle Ring Road II, Kepong, so that the public can know why the flyover is a threat to public safety

(Kuala Lumpur, Monday): Yesterday, Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu ordered the closure of the MRRII flyover Kepong. He has expected chaos in the traffic. For two months, the Public Works Department has discovered cracks in 33 pillars that support the structrure. Then, there was partial closure of the road.

It seems that consultants from Australia and Germany have been studying the structure. From their initial findings, Datuk Samy Vellu orders the closure because he does not want any accidents to happen.

Although the minister says that the closure is for three months, we don’t know how long it will take to repair the flyover.  After spending RM238.8 million public fund, the people have the rights to know what happens. Hence, the minister should make public the study on the flyover and the amount required to correct the mistake.

Meanwhile, we urge the Traffic Police and the City Transport Department, City Hall, Kuala Lumpur, to help relieve the traffic congestion at the 8th mile Kepong.
