The public would like to know the truth about the flaws in the flyover, Middle Ring Road 2, Kepong, that has been closed down Police Report - on the faulty flyover (MRR2) by Dr Tan Seng Giaw (Kuala Lumpur, Friday): I, Dr Tan Seng Giaw, make this report on the MRR2 flyover that has been closed by the Works Minister Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu since 8 August, 2004. The people suffer. They do not know what has happened to the MRR 2 projek that costs RM238.8 million. The flyover may cost over RM100 million. The Works Minister¡¯s statements on its flaws is not clear such as: the opinion of the Australian consultant and that of the German is contradictory; the repair bill is RM20 million while we do not know the basis for the estimate; 33 piers supporting the 1.7 km flyover show cracks, whereas Datuk Seri Samy insists that these are not due to design flaws. Datuk Seri Samy says: "Whoever feels he has grounds to lodge a report with the ACA (Anti-Corruption Agency) or even the police can do so. Go ahead. We are not stopping anyone. We are transparent and will give our fullest co-operation.
"Sure, if the ACA wants to investigate, let them do so¡our office is always open (Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mat Noor, Director-General ACA confirms that the agency has begun investigation on the case). They can come in and take the relevant files if they need to.
"°We can stop all repair works until they complete their investigation¡however, if this happens, we will not be able to re-open the highway in three months."
The Government needs an independent consultant to study the faulty flyover. Then, it has to repair the faults as soon as possible. Further, the police or ACA report and the repair works are two different kettles of fish. Because we are in the dark about this case and the ministerial threat, I have made this report to get to the truth.
