(Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday): After months of speculations, the Prime Minister Datio’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi appoints his deputy. We hope Datuk Seri Najib can assist him in making Malaysia a better country.

Dato’ Seri Abdullah has launched the anti-corruption campaign with National Integrity Plan and an academy. He has talked about better government services, better police force, better education and better fiscal policies as well as the rule of law.

It would be good to get rid of corruption in the country. This disease is infecting not only the public sector, but also the private one. There are complaints of irregularities in government departments, hanky-panky in firms such as MAS and the existence of two judiciary systems. These must be investigated.

We are facing big challenges in the economy: China and India are opening up their economy and the effects of  World Trade Organization as well as ASEAN Free Trade Area. Dato’ Seri Najib can assist in creating confidence, stopping wanton waste and finding the correct niche for the economy.

Datuk Seri Najib understands public relations, making an impact every time he heads a ministry. We hope he can help the PM to look into the state of the media in the country. After the media blitzkrieg creating the image of the new PM, the public would like to see a more open media, presenting news and views not just from the Government, but also from the Opposition.
