(Petaling Jaya, Monday): Today’s New Straits Times  reported that Pas President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, after chairing the party’s central committee meeting yesterday, made the announcement that PAS had set up a transparency council in preparation for the general election.

The report quoted Hadi as saying that the council, comprising leaders from Parti Keadilan Nasional and DAP, would gather information on what he described as Barisan Nasional “ cruel deeds” to the people.

The report further said that the council is chaired by Hadi and comprises central committee members Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar and Husam Musa as well as MPs from Keadilan and DAP and several non-governmental organisations.

Today’s Sin Chew Jit Poh also reported Hadi as saying that the council comprises opposition mops from Keadilan and DAP, as well as non-government organizations, other society leaders like academicians, former civil servants and diplomats.

I am shocked by the reports as I was never aware of the existence of such a council until this morning after reading the news reports..

The DAP was never informed about the formation of such a council and none of our leaders or MPs has ever had any meeting with Pas over the formation of such a council.

I must therefore make it clear that the DAP is not a member of the Pas transparency council and has nothing to do with it. .
