Malaysia must adopt a new mindset to face challenges of the future
by creating global Malaysians who will think global, learn global and
act global
2004 Chinese New Year
Message
by Dr Chen Man Hin
(Seremban, Tuesday):
It is customary for malaysian chinese families to gather during
the new year to celebrate, to pay respect to the elders and to strengthen
family ties
There will be festivities with relatives, and friends irrespective of race
will be invited to participate and enjoy the festivities.,
It is also an occaion to strengthen unity and harmony and help foster a
united malaysia.
It is also an occasion to think of the future and plan for the challenges
ahead for the country
We have seen and are seeing .the whole worrld undergoing tremendous changes
at an incredible pace beijing, london and new york appear our
next door neighbors by courtesy of the satellite handphone or internet. a
high tech country has put a robot to walk along the surface of planet mars.
In short we have now entered the era of globalisation and high knowledge.
malaysia must gear and equip itself to play a meaningul role in this new
world.
Traditional manufacturing industries will be overtaken by the creative and
knowledge industries spawned by science and high technology
During the new year family reunions will strengthen family bonds, filial
respect and the entrepreneurial spirit of our ancestors.
With this firm foundation, it is now time to forge new thinking and strategy
for the younger generation who shall be taught to think global, learn global
and act global.
They will be global malaysians who will make malaysia make the quantum leap
to be a major player in a global and high teck knowledge era.
