Adnan should set up a public commission of inquiry into all allegations of logging abuses and corruption  in Pahang state and to clear his name instead of the ridiculous step of lodging police report to spark a  battle of police reports which will only generate heat but not throw any light Media Statement by Lim Kit Siang (Petaling Jaya,  Sunday): It is most ridiculous for the Pahang Mentri Besar,  Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob to lodge a police report to counter the police report of a company director who accused him of abusing his power as Pahang Mentri Besar in approving a multi-million timber concession to the state UMNO in 2000, when the right and honourable thing for him to do is to establish a public commission of inquiry into all allegations of logging abuses and corruption in Pahang State and to clear his name.  By lodging a counter-police report, Adnan is only generating heat but not throwing any light, obfuscating instead of revealing the truth!  Section 2(3) of the  Commission of Enquiry Act 1950 (Revised 1975) empowers the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry by a State Government to inquire into-  (i) the conduct of any state officer; (ii) the conduct or management of any department of the public service of that State; (iii) the conduct or management of any public institution which is solely maintained by State funds; or (iv) any other matter in which an enquiry would, in the opinion of the State Authority, be for the public welfare of the State and which does not directly concern the public welfare of any other State.  A Pahang Royal Commission into logging malpractices  and corruption in the state, and in particular with reference to the abuses of power if any by Adnan as Mentri Besar, would fully comply with the law – and the question is why Adnan had not availed himself of the most effective and convincing manner of clearing himself of all allegations of logging improprieties – instead of resorting to the political game of “tit-for-tat” by lodging police report himself, which obfuscates rather than reveal the truth.  Alternatively, Adnan can ask the Cabinet to establish a Royal Commission to establish  a public inquiry into all allegations of logging abuses, malpractices and corruption in the Pahang state during his tenure as Pahang Mentri Besar to highlight his innocence, incorruptibility and integrity.
