Defamation Suit of RM26.2 million Against MP for Seputeh Struck Out By

(Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday):
The Senior Assistant Registrar of the
High Court at Kuala Lumpur today allowed the application by Teresa Kok, MP
for Seputeh to strike out the defamation suit with cost filed by AJ Ariffin
Yeo & Harpal & Harwinder Kaur a/p Harbhajan Singh (Kuala Lumpur High Court
Suit No.23-63-2002 M/s. AJ Ariffin Yeo & Harpal & Harwinder Kaur a/p
Harbhajan Singh vs Teresa Kok Suh Sim and The China Press Berhad) on 4th
September 2002.
In an earlier and similar application by the China Press to strike out M/s.
AJ Ariffin Yeo & Harpal & Harwinder a/p Harbhajan Singh's defamation suit,
the court has also allowed the striking out application on 11th September
2003.
AJ Ariffin Yeo & Harpal & Harwinder Kaur a/p Harbhajan Singh filed the
defamation suit against Teresa Kok and
the China Press on 4th September 2002 for RM26.2 million based on a China
Press report on the Desa Pakar housing project dated 4th August 2002. In the
statement of claim, Harwinder Kaur claimed that on 3rd August 2002, Teresa
Kok has made defamatory statements at the meeting with the housebuyers which
could only be meant to refer to her.
However, this was denied by Teresa Kok in her series of affidavits. She was
represented by Francis Brigged & Co.
