The latest bomb blast in Jakarta
indicates that the world today is not safer than the world before 911
Media Statement
by Ronnie Liu Tian
Khiew
(Petaling Jaya,
Thursday):
Another six lives were claimed in a
bomb blast took place at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta today. We condemn
the cold-blooded killings and strongly believe that such acts of terrorism
would not help to bring real benefits to the terrorists themselves. Violence
breeds violence, and there is simply no end to it.
Fighting fire with fire has
been proven futile in the war against terror. The Iraq invasion did not
bring real peace to the Iraqis. The quagmire in Fellujah and other parts of
Iraq will continue to haunt America and her allies for a long, long time to
come.
The entire world is in danger today. There are too many hotspots for
comfort. The Palestine-Israel conflict in the Middle East. The
Russian-Chechen conflict in northern Europe. The tussle between China and
Taiwan.
The world leaders need to take
a closer look at the roots of terrorism and find ways and means to resolve
the problem. Concerted efforts must be made by all to rid out the roots of
terrorism and unrest and make the world a safer place for the human race.
The latest bomb blast in Jakarta and the bloodsheds in Beslan have clearly
shown that the world today is not safer than the world before 911.
It will be the third anniversary of 911 tragedies in another two days. Let’s
hope that nothing catastrophic will happen on this day, and remain so
forever.
